Switching strokes idea

07 April 2004: British researchers have come up with a switchable 2-stroke/4-stroke technology that would offer motorists the best of both worlds.

Engineers believe they could thus produce lighter and more efficient engines, but with greater and cheaper production costs.

The 2/4SIGHT project is part-funded by the UK Department of Transport, led by automotive engineering consultancy Ricardo plc, with industry partners Ford Motor Company and Ma 2T4 Ltd.

Academic support comes from the Universities of Brighton and Brunel.
