16 July 2002: The AA is advising motorists to shop around for petrol as prices vary between stations.
Regular unleaded now costs an average of 89.5 cent, down by 1.4 cents on the same figure for June. the price of diesel also fell slightly and is now costing 79.0 cents.
The AA says motorists should be in the habit of noticing prices as displayed on forecourts in their own area - there is just no reason to pay over the odds.
A useful tip is to buy fuel in litres, not in euros. It just means looking at the other dial. the savings are clear when you buy 30 litres at a rate of 92 cents a litre and it costs 27.60 euros where a rate of 85 cents costs only 25.50 euros.
