Porsche Boxter

The Boxter has been tweaked for 2003 and the 2.7-litre power unit now develops maximum output of 228bhp. The Boxster also offers a 2 per cent improvement in fuel economy through the application of VarioCam technology offering continuous adjustment of the camshafts. A wider range of equipment is now standard, including remote control opening for the car and also the front and rear bootlids. Both the front and the rear are more powerfully contoured and the classic design of the Boxster is given greater emphasis. A modified roof now featuring a glass window, and the redesigned oval exhaust pipe completes the restyling. Personally I’m not really a Porsche fan, so maybe I’m not a real driver. Stars: 8/10

Porsche 911

Like its predecessor, the latest generation 911 Carrera 4 comes as standard with four-wheel drive and is fitted as standard with Porsche Stability Management, which intervenes in the engine management and braking systems to stabilise the car in both longitudinal and lateral directions whenever the car is driven to - or beyond - the limit. Displacing 3.6 litres and developing a maximum of 320bhp, the Carrera 4's power unit provides acceleration from 0-62mph, the same as for the rear-wheel drive Carrera, exactly 5.0 seconds. In a discreet way, Carrera 4 badging stands out in titanium colour on the engine cover, and also appears discreetly on the black wheel hub covers. Stars: N/A

Porsche Cayenne

With the Cayenne, Porsche is moving into a new segment of the automotive market with the fastest production SUV in the world. The Cayenne has clear design cues from the car's heritage: the V-shaped bonnet and front and rear seam contours, together with the raised wheel arches, muscular bumpers, headlights and tailpipes. A new 4.5-litre V8 power unit outputs 340bhp. Porsche Traction Management features as standard. Automatic air conditioning with separate controls for the driver and passenger, and a CD radio with a double tuner and 10 loudspeakers, are part of the package, as is leather upholstery. Porsche offers an electrically retractable trailer towing hook as optional equipment, which is able to tow a load of up to 3.5 tonnes. Stars: N/A
