19 September 2003: BMW's new 5-Series will be officially launched in Ireland on 2 October, with prices starting at E53,700.
The new car will initially be available with 2.2- and 3-litre petrol options, and a 3-litre turbodiesel. Power outputs range from 170-231bhp.
Both of the 3-litre cars start at the same price - E64,000.
BMW Group Ireland's Conrad Schmidt has also announced an effective tripling of the range of BMW models which will be available in Ireland, to 153, because of a relationship which the new Irish distributors have with their British counterparts.
Ireland's dealers will also now be able to tap online into the UK dealer system and 'swap' cars from their stocks, to more quickly meet a special order from individual customers. Up to 14,000 BMW cars across the model range will thus be available at any point in time in the two islands.
There will also be a specification grades, three to a model, adding SE and Sport to the basic versions which will give value packages to the basic cars at an extra cost of around 60 per cent of what the extras would cost as individual options.
BMW Group Ireland is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the German manufacturer and takes over distribution from Motor Import Ltd, who have been importing BMWs for 32 years.
