Truthful boozer's licence nicked

31 July 2003: 'Tell the truth and shame the devil' is a saying that many of us were encouraged to do by parents and teachers. But complying led to a German motorist losing his licence.

It happened when the driver in Essen was asked at a routine traffic check if he had drunk anything alcoholic.

The man answered at he had '20 beers at most, if you want me to be perfectly honest, but that's it really'.

After a breath test, they took his licence.
