Ultra-powerful Caddy concept

06 January 2003: DETROIT SHOW - It's not a car for the fuel efficient times, more a statement of 'we can be the biggest if we want to'. And whether GM's Caddillac division will ever build the 1,000hp Cadillac Sixteen is another day's story.

The ultra-powerful Cadillac was revealed by GM vice chairman Bob Lutz (above) at this week's Detroit Motor Show. "If you are going to be a high-end brand, then you need to be at the very, very top," said Gary Cowger, GM president of North American operations, at the launch. "The engine is real. It's the heart of the car, and it's ready. Now we see how people react."

GM hopes the Sixteen could become like the Maybach, the new ultra-luxury German car from DaimlerChrysler.
