18 December 2002: The European Union strategy to reduce CO2 emissions from passenger cars appears to be succeeding, according to the latest survey of new car emission figures.
The news comes in the European Commissions third annual report on the strategy to reduce CO2 emissions, which concludes that the strategy had so far resulted in a 10% reduction of CO2 emissions from new passenger cars sold on the EU market since 1995.
The main element of the strategy is the commitment from the European, Japanese, and Korean car industries to reduce CO2 emissions from new passenger cars.
This is good news for the environment, and good news for consumers, who can feel confident that if they buy a new car, it should be cleaner and better for the environment than the previous equivalent model.
