First fully automatic car park goes wrong

7 February 2002: Motorists in Zurich were locked out of the world's first fully automated car parke when it went wrong.

The system is supposed to takes a shopper's car at the touch of a button, park it and later return it.

But its computer software broke down and owners were left locked out of the car park Several were put up in hotels by Zurich city council.

The facility is now expected to be out of action until the beginning of March.
