Conti launches new tyre

22 April 2003: Continental Tyre Group has announced the launch of a new tyre for the mini, supermini and compact classes, which now account for 60 % of all cars sold on the Irish market. ContiEcoContact 3 is a technologically advanced tyre which reduces braking distances on wet surfaces by up to the length of a car.

The new tyre is composed of an innovative, flexible silica compound. This provides high dynamic stiffness that ensures consistent transmission of forces and leads to increased balance and safer handling. The tyre’s flexibility gives a high degree of interlocking between the tyre and the road, reduced braking distances and lower rolling resistance - meaning lower fuel consumption on wet and dry roads.

The ContiEcoContact 3 has an asymmetrical tread pattern that enables vehicles to attain an optimal balance between safety and comfort. The stiff tread pattern centre ensures excellent braking performance as well as precise handling and tracking. A sturdy outer shoulder helps increase driving stability in curves, while special ‘grip’ edges and incisions on the outside of the tyre provide additional traction – especially through wet curves.

Angus Smith of Continental Tyres comments: “This latest addition to the ContiEcoContact family will ensure greater comfort and safety for the majority of Irish motorists, who drive the type of everyday cars for which it is designed. Alongside safety, customers are demanding greater economy and quality – this tyre delivers on all three fronts.”
