Corolla top-seller globally in 2002

28 January 2003: The Toyota Corolla posted global sales of 1,016,000 units in 2002, an increase of 18.5% over 2001 sales of 857,000 units and making it the globally top-selling car model.

Domestic sales in Japan were 226,000 units, and overseas sales totaled 790,000 units. The Corolla was the top-selling model in the world, but in 2002 its 33 years of dominance in Japan ended, as the Honda Fit (Jazz in Europe) captured the title as the top-selling domestic model.

Toyota manufactures the Corolla in ten countries including the US, Canada, the UK, and Turkey.

Sales of the Corolla are particularly strong in Asia.
