'Compulsory re-test' after ban

25 July 2003: A survey of drivers in the 50-90 age group in Manchester suggested that compulsory re-testing after a driving ban should be put in place as an effective measure of improving road safety.

The participants also felt they would agree with a mandatory driving assessment of anyone observed by the police to be driving in a dangrous manner.

They were also generally in favour of opticians reporting to the driving authority any patients who turned up with a problem that would potentially impair their driving ability.
