24 March 2004: Ireland has a staggering waiting time of as much as six times longer to take a driving test as in Britain.
Waiting times are as much as 60 weeks in some places in Ireland, while in Britain the average is 8.7 ... which is deemed as too long a wait.
Naas has the highest waiting time of 60 weeks, followed by Dungarvan, Tallaght, Thurles, Tipperary and Waterford on 59 weeks each.
"The average wait around the country is a staggering 42.2 weeks in contrast to Britain's 8.7," says Robert Taylor Managing Director RAC Ireland. "Something is urgently required to speed up the system here, as it is simply not good enough that a learner must wait for almost one year to sit their test."
