Dundrum Bypass officially opened

3 July 2002: The new Dundrum Bypass was officially opened yesterday by the minister for transport, Seamus Brennan TD, in the company of Cllr Betty Coffey, Cathaoirleach, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.

The 4 million euros project is 1.1km long and has been designed and built to facilitate the Dublin-Sandyford LUAS line as well as enabling the opening of a new shopping and leisure development at the Pye Centre.

Studies estimate that traffic going through the village will reduce by as much as two thirds, down from 16,500 to 4,000 vehicles daily, leaving the village virtually traffic free at off-peak hours.
