Esso station is first to go euro in pilot project

17 August 2001: A Dun Laoghaire Esso service station has become the first petrol station in the country to go 'euro live'.

The Esso West Pier Station is now quoting all petrol sales to its customers in euro. It marks the beginning of a pilot conversion project at a number of Esso company-owned sites across the country.

Esso Area Manager Catherine Burke says that filling stations will likely be the first experince of euro transactions for many consumers, because many other retail outlets will be closed during the changover day.

The pilot stations also provide the price information in punts/pence.
