Japanese increase European share

14 March 2003: Japanese cars increased their share of the European market in the first two months of 2003, from 10.4 per cent to 11.6 per cent, with Toyota topping the Japanese table at 4.6 per cent of 2.2 million cars sold.

Nissan came next, with a 2.4 per cent market share, and Mazda was third with 1.3 per cent. Honda came fourth.

Amongst the European makers, VW Group held 17.9 per cent, PSA Peugeot-Citroen 16 per cent, Ford 11.4 per cent, Renault 10. per cent, and GM 9.6 per cent.

The European market as a whole was down 5.3 per cent on the same period last year.
