Ford postpones Focus Rally Championship

17 June 2002: Ford Ireland has taken the difficult decision to postpone the opening round of the 2002 Ford Ireland Focus Rally Championship.

The 2002 Ford Ireland Focus Rally Championship, will not start as originally planned with the 2002 Shell Donegal International Rally. The decision was taken to postpone the opening round as all the cars are not yet ready and there is insufficient time available to test the cars comprehensively before the opening round. The Championship will now commence with the Stonethrowers Rally in August and another date will be added to the 2002 Ford Ireland Focus Rally Championship calendar.

"It has been a very difficult decision to make and a decision that was not taken lightly. However when the full facts were examined we felt that without all eight cars running in Donegal it would not be fair to all the competitors involved. We will now wait until August when the Championship can start in its full glory," said Declan Foley, Brand Manager, Ford Ireland.
