11 February 2003: A new short history of Ford's manufacturing and assembly of cars in Ireland between 1919 and 1984 has been published in association with the RIAC Guinness Seagreave Archive.
The booklet was written by Bob Montgomery, the author of a number of books on the history of motoring in Ireland.
The publication includes many historical photographs of Ford cars in Ireland and considerable detail of the business policies which led to the development of Ford's manufacturing activity here.
In a foreword, the chairman and managing director of Ford in Ireland, Eddie Murphy, says the Ford role in the industrial heritahe of Ireland has been imprtant, if often understated.
"On the one hand, the Ford story in Ireland is one born of ancestral sentiment," he notes. "On the other, it is a testament to the commercial foresight that made Henry Ford the man he was."
'Ford Manufacture & Assembly at Cork 1919-1984' is published by Dreoilín Specialist Publications and costs E6.
