17 June 2002: In claiming 7.7% of the entire car market last month, the Ford Focus strengthened its position as Irelands best-selling car. The Focus performance in May was the strongest of any nameplate in Ireland so far this millennium.
The Focus accounted for one in every 13 cars sold last month, and 8,214 Focus units were sold in Ireland in 2001, making it the countrys best-selling car. Nearly 32,000 models have been purchased in Ireland since its introduction in late 1998, with worldwide production now in excess of 2.5 million.
"A key element to Focus commercial success has been its global appeal," says Eddie Murphy, Chairman and Managing Director, Ford Ireland. "In an industry of ever decreasing life cycles, the ongoing supremacy of Focus is a testament to the style and driving quality which set it apart from the typical volume family offerings.
More good news for Ford Focus came with the Focus TDCi being awarded Car of the Year 2002 by Diesel Car magazine in the UK.
The Focus TDCi was recently made available in Ireland in 3-door Zetec trim for 23,795 euros. The Focus range is on sale from 17,295 euros.
