Introduction of multimedia package to Ford Galaxy

23 April 2001: Ford has introduced a new in-vehicle Multimedia Entertainment System in Ireland as an option on the Galaxy Ghia. This system enables rear seat passengers to enjoy videos, DVDs and games on individual screens while travelling. As one passenger plays a video game, another can watch their favourite movie. Ideal for long distance journeys, it will keep adults and children amused for hours.

The system comprises a VCR, two screens, a centre console, a system controller and remote controls. A screen is set in the front headrests and headphones are also available. The system is developed around a modular architecture, which means that upgrading of the DVD system is fully possible. The system retails at £2,178.

Eddie Murphy, Managing Director of Ford Ireland, said the addition of this sophisticated multimedia system is an example to Ford’s pursuit of excellence and providing value and innovation to the consumer. “This is the first system of its kind available in a family car," he said.

The Ford Galaxy Ghia also offers features such as an on-board refrigerator, a front and rear distance-parking sensor, an integral child seat and a highly flexible seating layout.
