Ford unveils Shelby supercar

13 August 2004: Ford has unveiled its Shelby GR-1 concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, calling the new sports car a salute to 'performance art'.

It is a front-engined, two-seat, fastback supercar based on the architecture of the Ford GT.

The car represents the latest co-production from Ford and Carroll Shelby more than 42 years after their original agreement to produce performance cars.

Shelby, a former race car driver, returned to collaboration with Ford in the design of the 2005 Ford GT, which goes on sale this summer.

The car is powered by a Ford 6.4-litre V10 engine with 605 hp on tap.
