Getting back at Gatsos

14 February 2003: Motorists in Britain are starting to vent their anger at the ever increasing use of speed cameras by attacking the cameras themselves.

They have set fire to, shot at, burned, spray-painted and even dug up Gatsos across the country. In one case, a lorry was deliberately reversed into the machine.

Offenders could face a £2,000 fine and up to six months in jail if they're caught.

Another 1,000 cameras are scheduled to go up in the next few years.

A campaign group - Motorists Against Detection - claims that the cameras are only for revenue collection in most locations.
