16 January 2003: The Hyundai Getz has 'exceeded expectations in sales in Ireland in the first few weeks of this year, according to importers Hyundai Ireland.
They say that sales of around 150 in that short time have the company very positive for the coming year.
Initial anazlysis shows that the most popular version is the 5-door 1.1-litre version, with the higher CDX specification that includes a sunroof.
A spokesperson said the high number of 5-door versions sold has surprised them, as they had anticipated a greater interest in the 3-door as a starter car.
The Irish distributors are expecting to sell 2,000 units of the Getz in 2003. It is the first of Hyundais new models aimed at the critical B segment which is 23 per cent of the total Irish car market.
