GM urges dealerships to combine brands

28 November 2002: General Motors Europe is encouraging Opel, Saab and Daewoo dealers to combine under common ownership in Europe.

A new multiple franchise retail strategy because of changed block exemption rules is aimed at convincing existing dealers who want to add a franchise to do so within the GM family. In the past, Opel usually blocked its dealers from selling other brands, even other GM-owned brands.

GM executives expect established Opel dealers to go after Saab and Daewoo franchises.
