UK business drivers plump for Golf

23 January 2002: UK car fleet operator Lex Vehicle Leasing has reported the Mk IV Golf GTi as the top choice in Britain for a company car. The 3-series BMW was second choice, followed by the Ford Focus and the Ford Mondeo.

The company bought 25,000 cars to lease out last year and according to company pricing manager Steve Jones the GTi is still seen as having a long sporting pedigree, even if it is no longer the fastest car in its sector.

He also said that offering a diesel GTi was also a clever marketing ploy allowing younger company drivers forced to opt for a diesel to still say they drive a GTi.

VW's Passat, was the number five choice , closely followed by the Vauxhall Vectra and Astra.
