Honda CR-V at top of segment sales for 2003

20 February 2004: The 'lifestyle' state of the large SUV segment across Europe is clearly shown by an analysis which puts the Honda CR-V at the top of segment sales last year.

More than a fifth of the total 146,298 units sold in 2003 were CR-Vs, a model which doesn't go the traditional 4x4 route of high/low ratio gearboxes.

Following up was the very traditional Mitsubishi Pajero, with 17.3 per cent of segment share, and then the fastest-growing brand in Europe, Kia, with its Sorento tripling its sales to 22,499, or 15.4 per cent.

Jeep's Grand Cherokee and Land Rover's Discovery too the remaining places in the top five.
