Honda looks to China for growth

11 June 2001: Honda plan to build car production in China to an annual 240,000 units, and will introduce the Logo model (current version above) in 2003 in 1- and 1.3-litre forms. This will follow an earlier launch of the Odyssey MPV there.

The Chinese-made Logo is also likely to bemarketed in Europe. The Odyssey will be built at its Chinese facility in Guangzhou, and the company also expects to build 50,000 Accords there this year.

Honda says it will decide models to be marketed in China by' looking at the Chinese market, Chinese government policy and customer demand'. The country is seen by Honda as a key growth area, following its 23.3 percent fall in car sales in Europe in 2000/01. TW
