Police told 'silly' over phone charge

25 September 2003: Police in Australia were told by a judge that they 'looked a bit silly' when they brought a case against a man caught using a mobile phone while driving a horse and carriage.

The police in Melbourne had pulled over the carriage-driver while his rig was traveling at about 2mph.

His lawyer told the court his client was on a business call and said it was difficult to pull over a horse-drawn carriage quickly.

The magistrate dismissed the case.
