Call for continued enforcement of PPs

22 May 2003: The Allianz insurance group has called for continued enforcement of the penalty points regime, or improved driving behaviour could disappear.

Chief executive Brendan Murphy was commenting on news that rival insurance group Hibernian has agreed to a 10-point reduction in premiums to motorists who have no penalty points on their record.

The move is subject to the company being given access to the National Driver File.

But the Allianz boss said his company was not in the business of seeking 'quick publicity' by promising cheaper insurance over penalty points.

Mr Murphy said it was already dropping premiums because of an improvement in the fraud situation and a drop in the number of claims.
