30 June 2003: DaimlerChrysler plans to expand its Jeep range with a high-end model that will share its platform with the redesigned Grand Cherokee.

The new vehicle will appear in 2005 or 2006, following the debut next year of a redesigned Grand Cherokee

The current Grand Cherokee is losing out to strong competition from Lexus, Cadillac, Honda and Acura in the key US market, and it is believed the as yet unnamed new model will be geared to target these vehicles.
