28 July 2004: The revised Mercedes-Benz C Class saloons, estates and Sports Coupe have now gone on sale in Ireland, alongside a brand new SLK roadster.
Modifications to the suspension, steering, and the addition of a 6-speed gearbox as standard are said to have significantly improved the driveability of the car, which has sold almost 1.3 million copies since 2000 and set a record within Mercedes-Benz for units sold in such a period of time.
The saloon and estate versions are now available with six petrol engines ranging in output from 143bhp-367bhp, and three turbodiesel units outputting 122-170bhp. Prices go from e40,850-e92,300.
The revised Sports Coupe now has four petrol engines, including the 192bhp 1.8-litre Kompressor as an addition to the 143bhp and 163bhp versions. Top of the range is the 3.2-litre V6 with 218bhp. There are also two 2.2-litre diesel engines with a choice of 122bhp or 150bhp output.
The price range of the revised Sports Coupe is e38,075-e53,055.
There will be just 130 copies of the new SLK sent to Ireland for the remainder of this year, and all of them have been pre-sold.
Prices range e51,695-e72,780, and the price of the AMG is yet to be finalised.
