'Blind-spot' mirror invention

30 May 2003: A rear-view mirror with a digital blind-spot detector has been developed by a Spanish automotive mirror supplier, Ficosa.

The system uses a tiny digital camera that detects any vehicle inside the blind spot and warns the driver by both audio and visual signals.

Ficosa is negotiating with Peugeot-Citroen to use the system in future cars. The company has also developed an windscreen-defroster that provides a jet of hot water within a minute of engine startup.
