New Volvo XC90 gets off to flying start

31 May 2002: Volvo Car Ireland Ltd has received over 50 orders for its new all-wheel XC90 based solely on photos and preliminary information issued after its world debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January.

The all-new 163bhp D5 diesel will be launched here late this year. Prices will be confirmed at the end of June or in early July.

Alan Cousins, Volvo Car Ireland’s Managing Director says reaction to the XC90 from all areas of the industry has been very positive and having received over 50 orders already, without a dealer having a car in the showroom and without a test drive taking place, is very encouraging for the future of the XC90.

German car magazine AutoZeitung awarded the XC90 the AutoTrophy 2002 for the most ‘important foreign innovation’, beating 170 other vehicles from all round the world in a poll of readers and journalists.

Meanwhile, in the US, the Roll Stability Control (RSC) system fitted to the Volvo XC90 received the World Traffic Safety Symposium Manufacturers’ Award.
