New seatbelt system for Maxima?

11 January 2003: Nissan has developed a brake-operated pre-crash seatbelt system designed to further increase occupant safety in the event of a collision.

The system reacts to how the brake pedal is depressed, in a similar way that this operates brake assist, and automatically tightens up the seatbelts of driver and front passenger.

The idea will be incoporated in its first production role in what the company describes as a 'new luxury vehicle' to be introduced early this year. Probably the new version of the Maxima.
