29 May 2003: Opel is planning to revisit the US market with the Signum and the upcoming Vectra wagon.
The GM brand hasn't been sold in the US since the late 70s, though versions of Opel models have been marketed as Pontiacs, Cadillacs and Chevrolets.
GM's Saturn division has also used Opel-developed platforms for its vehicles.
The move is part of GM chairman Bob Lutz's plan to add more cars to the GM portfolio without heavy development costs.
GM is already commited to bringing in its Australian Holden subsidiary's Monaro as a Pontiac GTO, but it is understood that the Opels will retain their own brand names.
