Owen's Jaguar is the cat's whiskers for Sport Relief

28 May 2002: England striker, Michael Owen and Jaguar Cars have donated a very special car to Sport Relief, a new fundraising campaign from Comic Relief and BBC Sport, which aims to raise many thousands of pounds for disadvantaged children and young people.

The Jaguar X-TYPE 2.5 litre Sport is top car among a number of celebrity donations to be auctioned at Sotheby’s Olympia, London on Friday 19 July 2002.

Jaguar Cars has produced this one-off Jaguar X-TYPE with some very special features including Michael’s signature inlaid in the wood veneer fascia and also featured on the rear windscreen, and a specially commissioned football gear knob. Michael has also agreed to sign the owner’s manual and personalise for the lucky recipient.

The all wheel drive Jaguar X-TYPE, in red with ivory leather interior, reflects Michael’s association with both Liverpool Football Club and the England International Team.

Michael who approved the car himself at Liverpool Training Ground before he left for the World Cup commented: "This certainly beats a signed photograph or shirt and I hope someone will bid thousands to raise money for Sport Relief."
