Dublin park-and-ride 'not priority'

14 January 2004: Dublin City Council's director of traffic, Owen Keegan, says park-and-ride facilities around Dublin 'are not a high priority' for the city's traffic management.

Speaking on RTE Radio One this morning, he said that if he had €50 million to spend he would be putting it into more bus priority lanes and more buses.

He added that the expense involved in land purchase and development, and in the subsequent subsiding of buses to transfer motorists to the city, was 'difficult to justify' when there are other ways of improving the bus system.

But he said the Council is committed to building one 'demonstrator' park-and-ride facility to the West of Dublin.
