Peugeot's new 206 Sport wagon here in July

27 June 2002: Peugeot’s new 206 Sports Wagon goes on sale at Peugeot Dealerships nationwide this July. The new member of the 206 family has been designed to combine the practicality of an estate with the appeal and style of a sports hatchback.

Whilst the sleek feline features of the front of Peugeot’s star seller, the 206, have been retained, the rear of the hatchback has been completely redesigned to offer up to 480 litres of luggage space. The rear door handles are incorporated into the rear door and the rear wraparound lamp clusters sweep up to a high roofline and rounded rear end, giving the car a distinctive sporty finish. Body coloured door handles, door mirrors and rear number plate housing enhance its sporty appeal.

The tinted rear window in the tailgate can be opened independently, which is unique to a vehicle in this class and brings a new level of practicality to small cars.

Peugeot is launching the 206 Sports Wagon in Ireland in eight colours and in four trims: a 1.1 X, 1.4 XT, 1.6 XSi and a 2.0 GTi version. The new 1.4 HDi 70 bhp engine will arrive in this model in the autumn. Standard specification on the 1.1 X includes remote central locking, an in-dash CD player, remote audio controls, driver and passenger airbags, roof bars, split 40/60 rear seats, internally adjustable mirrors, a rear reading light, power steering, rear spoiler with incorporated high-mounted brake light and a 12-volt electric socket.

Prices range from 15,815 euros plus dealer delivery pack for the basic 1.1 X version and rise to 24,015 euros plus delivery charges for the GTi version.
