24 May 2002: The Peugeot Boxer has now received a complete makeover with changes that include an improvement in quality, a more functional and comfortable interior, new equipment, and powered by Peugeots 2.0, 2.2 and 2.8 HDi engines:
Exterior wise, the front of the new Boxer has a bigger bonnet angle, formed by the extension of the windscreen, and a new lower front panel integrating an enlarged grille. The new wrap-round front bumpers are anchored directly on the longitudinal members for a better distribution of the loads in the event of a frontal impact. In addition, the front part of these longitudinal members has a progressive energy absorption capacity. To the rear, the new bumper also acts as a non-skid step.
The structure has undergone 22 changes to stiffen the body and improve its torsion resistance (an improvement of approximately 20%). A new suspension, new sound absorbing floor covering, complete bulkhead insulation and a sound insulated partition have been fitted, guaranteeing a much improved interior acoustic level.
The interior features a new instrument panel, equipped with an electronic cluster to provide all the necessary information connected with the driving, service and maintenance of the vehicle. All the vehicles are equipped as standard with an inertia switch which cuts off the power supply to the fuel pump in the event of a violent impact. The new Boxer has a driver's airbag as standard and seats are now equipped with anti-submarining crosspieces, height-adjustable head restraints and three point safety belts.
Available in a choice of short wheelbase, medium wheelbase and long wheel base body versions, the new Boxer can carry a payload of 1145kg up to 1505kg depending on the version. Prices and standard specifications for Ireland are to be announced shortly.
