New 'featherweight' diesel in 206, 307

17 December 2001: Peugeot’s 206 and 307 (2002 European Car of the Year) are now available with the lightweight eight-valve, 68bhp and 70bhp 1.4-litre HDi turbodiesel engines respectively, versions of which will also power the upcoming Ford Fiesta.

Fuel consumption on the combined drive cycle is 65.7mpg for the 206 and 62.8mpg for the 307. Carbon dioxide emissions levels for the 1.4 HDi 206 and 307 are the lowest in both vehicle ranges – 112 g/km and 120 g/km respectively.

The 206 has a top speed of 104.3mph, and accelerates from 0-60 mph in 15 seconds, while the 307 has a maximum speed of 102mph and travels from 0-60 mph in 16.3 seconds (16.5 seconds for the 5 door version).

This new direct injection turbo diesel power unit weighs just 98 kg, some 50 kg less than the 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine. TW
