29 July 2002: Peugeots new Boxer van appeared on the worlds largest billboard site (Guinness Book of Records, 2002) at Fort Dunlop outside Birmingham in the UK, this month.
Grabbing the attention of millions of motorists, even up to a mile away, the poster weighs about two tonnes and covers nearly an acre in size, measuring 132 metres long and 23.7 metres high.
The poster, had to be installed in six PVC panels, due to its size and weight. Each panel was hoisted in a roll to the top of the building, positioned, anchored and then dropped down in front of the scaffolding before being attached in place by the installation team. Erection of the poster required assistance from 12 men, use of two cranes and took nearly a week to assemble. The construction has used over six and a half miles of scaffolding tube and over 7,500 fittings, all weighing approximately 56 tonnes.
Dean Drew, Peugeots UK Advertising Director said, "We wanted to give the Boxer a bigger profile to herald its new look, adaptability and driveability. The new Boxer offers tremendous value for money, is well specified and is the "van that can" do any job asked of it."
The poster is the first to be displayed on the premises and will be at the Fort Dunlop site until the end of the year.
