New engines for Peugeot next year

25 November 2002: Peugeot has accelerated development of a range of variable valve timing engines, and the technology will appear first early next year in a 180bhp 2-litre engine for the 206 GTi.

The same engine will also be used in a version of the upcoming 307 CC coupe cabriolet (above), which made its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in September.

One of the engines, a 1.6-litre unit, is said to be capable of producing around 100bhp and has a fuel economy of almost 50mpg. A 1.4-litre will be used in the new 107 replacement for the 106 entry-level car.
