28 February 2003: Volkswagen is introducing the world's most powerful diesel-engined passenger car at next week's Geneva Show - the Phaeton V10 TDI. This new model will go on sale in Germany at the end of March 2003, at a list price starting at E82,600.
The car's 5-litre, 10-cylinder engine with its twin turbochargers develops a torque of 750 Newton-metres at an engine speed as low as 2000/min; its maximum power output is 313 bhp.
The car has a newly developed 6-speed automatic transmission and a 4MOTION all-wheel driveline and has a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically governed), with acceleration to 100 km/h from a standing start in 6.9 seconds.
Standard equipment includes leather upholstery and trim, front seats with 12-way electric position adjustment, an electrically adjustable steering column including 'Easy Entry' and position memory functions, and front seat belts also adjustable electrically to suit the wearer's height.
This year's Geneva Motor Show also sees the premieres of the Touareg 2.5 TDI, the Touareg V8 and a V6 TDI version of the Passat with a power output of 180 bhp. Other new Volkswagen models on display in Geneva are the Touran, the new Multivan and the New Beetle Cabriolet.
