30 May 2002: The new Nissan Primera is the winner of the MG Car Club/Irish Shell Economy Run.
The 1.6-litre Primera was entered by Nissan dealers Windsor Deansgrange and achieved an actual 57.72mpg over a 168-mile route. The car was driven by John Horan from Churchtown and was navigated by Alastair Lindsay.
The adjusted figure, found by multiplying the mpg by the weight of the car in tonnes, gives a final figure of 74.26mpg.
John Horan has competed in the event for 37 consecutive years, and he won it on four previous occasions.
