A Proton to change perception

09 February 2004: Malaysian carmaker Proton has produced a new 1.6-litre car that could change the public perception of the brand.

Proton has not been on the Irish market for more than a decade.

The new Gen-2 has been produced by the Lotus Design Studio in Britain, which is owned by the company.

The new DOHC engine outputs 110bhp, and is mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.
