2 May 2002: PSA Peugeot Citroen Automobile Division sales rose by 6.9% during the quarter to 10,884 million euros, while worldwide unit sales were up 5% to 809,900 vehicles.
In Western Europe, demand for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles contracted by 4.3% in the first quarter, which had one less business day than the prior-year period. PSA Peugeot Citroën, on the other hand, increased registrations by 2.8% and continued to consolidate its position as Europes second largest carmaker, with market share widening to 15.6% from 14.5% in first-quarter 2001.
Compared to the prior-year period, Group market share was stable in Spain (22.8%) and the United Kingdom (13.7%), rose by around one point in France (33.9%) and Germany (5.4%) and gained almost two points in Italy (9.5%) and in the other European countries as a whole (15%).
In Ireland, Citroen and Peugeot combined Car and Van market share is at an all time high of 9.4% to March 2002. The target for the year is 10%
