26 June 2002: Nissan has won the Red Dot award for high design quality by the Design Zentrum Nordhein-Westfalen in Germany. Its the fourth time the company has won the award in the past ten years, this time for the new Primera.
Some 1,479 entries were submitted in the Product Design category and were appraised for innovation, functionality, ergonomics and environmental friendliness.
The Primera won for, among other things, how its designers had opened up the classic limousine design and melded the bonnet and boot into an elegant and floating line.
The new Primera was designed at the Nissan Design Centre in Munich under the direction of Stéphane Schwartz, who accepted the award on behalf of the whole design team.
Nissan previously won the Red Dot for the Nissan Micra in 1993, the Nissan Almera in 1996 and the Nissan Tino in 2001.
