Laguna II gets new 150bhp 2.2 diesel in France

17 December 2001: The Laguna II Hatchback and Sport Tourer 2.2 dCi will go on sale in France in the last two weeks of January 2002. This new 2.2 dCi 16-valve engine of 150bhp will complete the range of Laguna II common-rail turbodiesel versions which already includes the 1.9 dCi with 100bhp, 110bhp and 120bhp.

In its original form, this new 2188cc 16-valve direct injection common-rail turbodiesel first appeared in the Renault Espace in September 2000 but now has its maximum power output increased to 110kW (150bhp) and maximum torque increased to 320Nm over a wide speed range from 1,750rpm to 3,000rpm.

Teamed with a 6-speed gearbox, this new engine achieves a fuel consumption of 44.8mpg in the European mixed cycle, providing a driving range of 687 miles on a tank of fuel.

In the European market to the end of October 2001, Laguna II occupied 4th place in its segment with sales volumes increased by over 30%. Laguna II was actually the second best-selling car in its segment in Europe in October 2001, with a 12.3% market share, ahead of its competitors the Audi A4, Ford Mondeo, Peugeot 406, Opel Vectra and Citroën C5
