Watch speedfreaks, risk jail

11 November 2002: The City of San Diego has brought in a by-law that makes it an offence to knowingly be a spectator at an illegal street race or speed contest.

Violators would be subject to arrest, punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

The city is just the latest to bring in such an ordinance - others include the City of Los Angeles, the County of Los Angeles, and the City of Ontario.
