SEAT to show invigorating sporty concept at Frankfurt

28 August 2001: This is SEAT's sporty Tango concept, a two-seater evoking the spirit of 50s and 60s convertibles which will be launched to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Skeletal, unpolished aluminium tubes are visible throughout the interior, which also displays parts of the chassis. Both the xenon dipped headlights and sidelights automatically follow the direction of the front wheels.

The foglamps are made up of a series of light emitting diodes, while the rear lights use filters lit by fibre optics to create multiple combinations. The entire light cluster can be a rear light, a brake light or an indicator, and automatically adjusts in intensity and brightness to suit prevailing conditions.

The safety skeleton is the direct descendant of the World Rally Car safety cage. The driver's seat is fixed, so the pedal box is adjustable, while the steering wheel and its integral instrument dials are also adjustable for height and reach.

The car is powered by a 180hp 1.8-litre engine and has a 7-second acceleration in the 0-62mph sprint. TW
