09 October 2003: Skoda have introduced the first Euro IV diesel engine in the brand's model range.
The V6 2.5 litre engine is available in the Skoda Superb. Producing 160 bhp, the turbo diesel engine has a high torque of 350 Nm at 1,250 rpm. The Euro IV engine replaces the current V6 2.5 litre, 155 bhp power unit in the Superb range.
Extensive modifications were made to the engine to meet the Euro IV requirements. These included changes to the fuel injection system, the turbo-charger and the cylinder head design.
The biggest modification was made to the mapping in the ECU. All of these changes provide greater control over engine emissions and provide additional benefits of increased power (155bhp to 160 bhp) and higher torque (310 Nm to 350Nm at 1250 rpm), while maintaining the same, low fuel consumption as the previous V6 diesel engine (39.8 mpg combined).
